ShelterBox strategy 2022-2027
Our 5-year strategy will see ShelterBox become even more focused on the impact emergency shelter can have for people after disaster and conflict.
have been supported since we were founded in the year 2000.
supported in 2024 with emergency shelter and other essential aid.
where ShelterBox has provided assistance in 2024 – from Gaza to Yemen.
Last year conflicts around the world caused major humanitarian crises.
In Gaza and Lebanon, we supported thousands of people fleeing violence. With your support, we are committed to continuing our work in these areas in 2025.
We also provided shelter assistance in Syria, Cameroon and Chad as people faced another year of conflict. In Syria, we supported people to survive the harsh winter. In Cameroon, we assisted 49,000 people. And we provided shelter to those escaping the conflict in Sudan, who sought safety in neighbouring Chad.
Extreme weather events hit developing nations hard last year.
In the Philippines, strong tropical storms occurred throughout 2024. Our team in Cebu provided shelter repair items to support families.
In July, Hurricane Beryl displaced thousands in the Caribbean. We provided around 3,000 people with emergency shelter and essential items.
In Bangladesh, we assisted 5,800 people hit by Cyclone Remal and thousands more affected by flooding, thanks to you.
People in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Somalia, and Yemen face many challenges. These crises are often overlooked and don’t receive enough funding. Problems include conflict, political instability, and extreme weather.
But with support from our partners, we keep responding.
In 2024, we offered long-term shelter solutions to 9,000 people in Yemen. In Somalia, we provided aid and shelter to around 16,000 people. In Mozambique, we provided items like solar lights, blankets, and mosquito nets. And in Ethiopia, we supported 38,500 people with items like sleeping mats and kitchen sets.
In 2024, we responded twice in Bangladesh alongside our local partner, Uttaran. We were quick to respond to both disasters. In total, we supported over 5,800 people with shelter kits and cash.
Places like Bangladesh are are hit with many climate disasters every year. This is intensifying due to the climate crisis. Homes are mostly built of organic materials which cannot withstand events like flooding. Saleha’s home, for example, was damaged during the flooding in August. She lost her home, her livelihood, and her family required support.
We supported thousands of people like Saleha to rebuild homes that better withstand future flooding events.
In 2022, Pakistan was hit by severe monsoon rains and flooding. This affected around 33 million people. We partnered with Islamic Relief Pakistan to support people with their long term recovery.
Ali’s family home was destroyed in the flooding in 2022, and they were left with nowhere to live. We supported Ali, and 4,000 others, with building materials and cash so he could rebuild his home.
Without having to worry about a home, Ali can now look to the future.
“The plan is to work in Karachi, save some money, support the needs of my family, and start a business here for a better future.”
Our partnership with Rotary provided vital support last year. In 2024, Rotary supported aid into Gaza. They helped with visa entry into Bangladesh, and assisted with distributions in Ethiopia. Thanks to Rotary, we can reach more communities around the world.
This year, we also launched our first co-creation storytelling project in Cameroon. We worked with eight volunteers living in Minawao Refugee Camp. We ran storytelling workshops, covering camera skills and writing techniques for volunteers. Special thanks to our local partner for their support. This 6-month project was spotlighted as an example to model and learn from by other NGOs.
“Our work is more urgent than ever.
“Looking ahead, unpredictable weather and long-running conflicts will continue to challenge many millions of people. ShelterBox will be ready to respond. Thank you for standing with us.”
