What is happening in the Philippines?

On October 24th, Tropical Storm Trami swept through the Philippines.

More than two months of rain fell in just one day, causing severe flooding and landslides. Almost a million people have been displaced as their homes have been washed away or buried.

Right now, many people are sheltering in evacuation centres or staying with friends and family. Communal shelters are overcrowded and the lack of privacy leaves women and children exposed.

This is just the start of the annual typhoon season in the Philippines. More extreme weather is expected in the coming months and emergency shelter will be crucial for families to protect themselves.

Thanks to the kindness of our supporters, we’re helping people in Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and many more. Please donate now to provide vital support for families who have lost their homes to disaster around the world.

Not in the UK? No problem! Donate to ShelterBox in another country by choosing from the list of ShelterBox fundraising offices around the world.

ShelterBox aid items

How is ShelterBox helping?

ShelterBox is ready to support thousands of people with emergency shelter.

Our team are visiting the worst affected areas to find out what people need most to rebuild and recover. We’re gathering as much information as we can and working with our partners, including Rotary, to determine the extent of the damage.

Tarpaulins, tools, corrugated iron sheeting and hurricane strapping are all items that could help to make homes stronger. Cash assistance could also help people to pay for local builders and buy other essential items.

Has ShelterBox responded in the Philippines before?

We have a team permanently based in the Philippines and emergency shelter aid pre-positioned in Cebu because of how prone the country is to extreme weather and earthquakes.

It means we are well-prepared to respond to tropical storms and other disasters.
