We are supporting people with emergency shelter after flooding has caused thousands to leave their homes in central Malawi.
We also responded to support people there after severe flooding in 2020, in 2019 after Cyclone Idai, and in 2015 after flooding.
Malawi is a landlocked country in eastern Africa. To the north and east lies Tanzania. To the south and east is Mozambique. On the western border lies Zambia.
Malawi has a generally tropical climate. It has a rainy season from November to April, with peak rainfall expected in March. The country experiences cyclones, flooding and droughts. It is thought that the climate crisis is making these more intense.
