Although ShelterBox did not respond on this occasion, we shared information on our assessment visit there and the impact hurricanes can have.

Hurricane Dorian's path on the map

Where are the Bahamas?

The Bahamas are formed of hundreds of small islands in the western Atlantic Ocean. They can be found to the south-east of mainland Florida in the USA, and to the east of the Florida keys. To the south is found Cuba.

The Bahamas have a tropical climate where it is generally warm all year. They experience the most rainfall in the summer. Their position in the Atlantic can put them in the path of hurricanes, such as Hurricane Dorian. The Bahamas could be severely impacted by the climate crisis if sea levels continue to rise. It is also thought that climate change is making storms such as hurricanes more severe.
