ShelterBox has welcomed a new director and deputy director of international programmes to its team, joining its mission to provide emergency shelter to people who have lost their home to disaster or conflict.
Euan Crawshaw joins ShelterBox as its Director of International Programmes. He brings with him more than 10 years of experience in humanitarian programmes and emergency response, most recently as Humanitarian Lead at Oxfam.
Chief Executive of ShelterBox, Sanj Srikanthan says: “Euan has worked in South Sudan, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in emergency-related programmes and field management, as well as playing a regional leadership role in responding to the Syria refugee crisis and the wider Middle East region.
“Euan will lead on the formulation of our humanitarian strategy to reach more people left without shelter after disaster in partnership with others including those closest to affected communities.”
His appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the charity as it develops its new five-year strategy.
Speaking on his appointment, Euan says: “I am looking forward to helping lead the organisation’s push for meaningful partnerships, greater empowerment, inclusion and accountability to support the world’s most vulnerable communities with humanitarian shelter assistance, ensuring they are on a path to living in dignity and safety.”
The charity has operational headquarters in Truro and currently has teams working to support communities in Ukraine, Yemen, the Philippines, Burkina Faso, Mozambique, Syria, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Haiti and Nigeria.
As well as an in-country team based in the Philippines, the charity also has affiliate teams in 13 countries across the world that help with international fundraising and volunteering.
ShelterBox has also appointed Chloe Day as its Deputy Director of International Programmes. Chloe brings over 10 years of experience in emergency response and management of multi-sectoral humanitarian programmes in some of the world’s most challenging and under-funded protracted crises, including Yemen, the Syria regional crisis, Palestine and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Sanj adds: “Chloe will lead our global programme delivery across three regions as well as our emergency response team, to relentlessly focus on high quality, timely delivery of emergency shelter assistance.
“Chloe is passionate about equitable partnerships and the importance of gender equality and protection in humanitarian programming.”
Chloe says: “I am pleased to join ShelterBox at this significant moment for the organisation. I am excited to work with the team as we look to expand our reach, including through partnership, to meet the urgent shelter and core relief items of even more people who are affected by disasters and complex emergencies.”
Earlier this year ShelterBox deployed to the Philippines to help families rebuild after Typhoon Rai damaged or destroyed 1.7 million homes.
The charity’s most recent response is to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. ShelterBox has a team in Poland and Moldova working closely with other organisations to ensure that together as many people as possible are helped. The charity has aid on its way to collective centres in Ukraine and is working with partners to support people in Ukraine as well as those who have fled the country.
