We responded to help people with emergency shelter after fighting to reclaim the city of Mosul from so-called Islamic State (ISIS) in 2016.

We also responded to support people due to conflict in Iraq in 2012, 2014 and 2015.

Where is Iraq?

Iraq is in the Middle East. It shares borders with Türkiye (formerly Turkey) to the north and Iran to the east. Kuwait and Saudia Arabia are to the south. Jordan and Syria lie to the west.

Iraq has a hot arid climate. It is very vulnerable to climate change, with fears over rising temperatures and a lack of water. The country has been rocked by violent conflict for sustained periods of time.
