In Haiti, thousands of families were living without access to basic facilities, or even a roof over their heads after Hurricane Matthew tore through the country in October 2016.
Flimsy materials and basic shelters were no match for the Category 4 storm, which destroyed roads and bridges, and left almost 200,000 families without a place to call home.
Many areas were left cut off, whole communities were torn apart, and people were left with no access electricity. Flash flooding contaminated water supplies and increased the spread of cholera.
We supported families most affected with solar lights to light the way in the darkness, as well as water purification kits to allow them to produce safe drinking water.
