We are currently supporting 950 displaced families in Yemen, providing transitional shelters and essential household items.
18.2 million people in Yemen in need of assistance (more than 55% of the whole population).
Approximately 6.7 million people need a safe place to stay and other essential household items.
Of the millions of people displaced in Yemen, 80 per cent are women and children. The average household in Yemen has been displaced for eight years, and at least 25% have had to move twice or more.

Yemen is a country in West Asia, found in the southwestern part of the Arabian Peninsula. The land is mostly made up of mountains and dry areas.
In Yemeni culture, people highly value faith and family. Many are proud of how the country strongly follows Islamic traditions.
The civil war in Yemen began in 2014. Since then, conflict has escalated, and millions of people have been forced to flee their homes.
Yemen is also among the world’s most vulnerable countries to climate change risks. Water is particularly scarce within the country.
It is exposed to drought, storms, heavy rains and flooding, along with desert locust outbreaks. Over the years, these are worsening due to climate change. Displacement due to conflict and climate remains the highest reasons people continue on the move.
Right now, the country is facing many challenges, including conflict, famine, and disease outbreaks.

Learn moreWe have worked in Yemen since 2022, providing tents, tarpaulins and ropes, and household items like blankets, mattresses and fire extinguishers.
Right now, we are altering shelters to better serve people’s needs in the displacement site within Marib. The people in Marib are facing significant challenges due to severe fighting and overcrowding, making them especially in need of support.
Adaptions to shelter include increasing space in shelters, to provide families with more space. Adding an inner partition wall to give families more privacy and increasing the thickness and quality of insulation in tents.
Extra space in shelters helps to facilitate dignity, privacy and well-being for the people living there. This also lessens the risk of overcrowding, and potential violence.
Our teams have constructed Iron net shelters – shelters with an iron net frame, constructed on a concrete base. These are more resistant to Marib’s harsh climate, and typically last longer than standard tents. The solid structure mean people can feel a little safer, and have better ventilation and privacy.
Read about Iron Net SheltersEbrahim, who lives in a Yemen displacement camp with his wife and three children, Ali 6, Maryam 7 and Muhammad 13. Ebrahim has been living in the camp for several years, he and his family have been displaced twice since the start of the war.
Before the conflict, Ebrahim worked on his land as a farmer, growing wheat, corn, and barley. The long displacement has taken its toll on Ebrahim and his family, he tells us “We felt tired, and sad that we left behind everything we owned, all our memories, as well as the separation from family and relatives.”
When asked to describe how he felt when he received his new shelter Ebrahim said, “It was an indescribable feeling. I often passed the factories constructing the iron nets, and I wished for one for myself. When I saw the start of the process of installing [the iron nets] in the camp, I felt that my dream had come true.”
