about sanchia

Sanchia became a ShelterBox Response Team Volunteer in 2011 following a trip to Haiti where she was volunteering with a different organisation after the 2010 earthquake.

There she was given the opportunity to work alongside ShelterBox on a distribution.

Impressed with the aid items and ShelterBox’s focus, she signed up immediately.

I was hugely impressed with how ShelterBox really centres around what is best for the affected community.

Sanchia has now been on seven deployments with ShelterBox, helping to provide vital aid to families who have lost so much.

These deployments include the extreme flooding in Senegal in 2012 and the displacement of thousands of Syrian families in Turkey in 2015.

More recently, Sanchia travelled to Kenya, where devastating flooding has washed away whole villages.

See Sanchia at work in Kenya in this video.

When we asked Sanchia to share her favourite photo from a deployment, she showed us an image from Nepal.

Nepal was hit by a devastating 7.3M earthquake in April 2015, which left thousands of families without a home.

The image Sanchia chose shows just one of the diverse ways a ShelterBox is used after a disaster has hit a community.
