Actress Imelda Staunton who you may know from films like Harry Potter, Vera Drake and Netflix series The Crown; illustrator Karen George and children’s author and ShelterBox staff member Sarah Tagholm have joined forces to create a short animated film.

The film is based on the real-life experiences of the families ShelterBox supported in Syria and Türkiye after the devastating earthquakes earlier this year, and raises awareness of the threat that winter poses to people fleeing conflict and disaster.

(A mock-up version of the book was made for the film, but the story is not currently available to buy)

A race against time in Morocco

We are supporting families facing freezing temperatures after a very real earthquake – the one that shook Morocco in early September.

The earthquake caused massive damage in remote villages in the Atlas Mountains and our teams arrived to find thousands of mountainside homes completely collapsed.

Winter can be brutal in the Atlas Mountains and with temperatures about to become dangerously low, families in Morocco faced a race against time to give themselves the best chance of making it through the winter months.

Khadija told us what winter is like in her village. “There is snow here in winter, the weather is very cold, and it rains.

With hard winter conditions in mind, we asked Khadija what items she was most looking forward to receiving, to which she replied. “All of them, everything. I just want a good tent for the winter. Our biggest fear here, you can ask anyone. It is the winter.

We’re responding to disasters around the world this winter. Help us to be there for people wherever the need is greatest.
